Community Arts Programs

We offer workshops in traditional West African drum and dance for all ages and abilities. We also host workshops in many other diasporic art forms. Students are able to explore and engage with culture while connecting with a global community of artisans and keepers of the culture.

International Travel Program

Embark on a journey into the rich traditions of West African dance, music, and folklore. We visit off-the-beaten-path locations engaging with local communities for an enriching and immersive learning cultural arts experience.

Professional Guest Artist Series

The Professional Guest Artist Series enriches our community through engaging cultural exchange with international artists, providing unique opportunities for intimate workshops, and spotlighting talented professionals from the diaspora, fostering a vibrant and diverse artistic experience.

Diasporic Day of Dance

Embark on a vibrant journey of cultural exploration at the Day of Diasporic Dance, featuring a diverse array of dance classes, a thought-provoking panel discussion fostering cultural understanding, and a joyous community celebration with dance and music, uniting communities through the transformative power of movement and shared rhythms.

Teaching Artist Learning Lab

T.A.L.L is one of Djapo's newly initiated programs which allows for artists to receive compensation for teaching and learning under professional mentorship and guidance. T.A.L.L was developed to provide artist training of instructional teaching pedagogy and delivery of instruction. Artists receive immediate feedback and support in order to enhance teaching skills and professional development.

Djapo Book Club

The Djapo Book Club provides a platform for the community to collectively explore compelling literature, fostering engaging online discussions and culminating themed, in-person events. Covering a diverse range of subjects such as lifelong learning, personal growth, culture, African-American history, and social justice, the club invites members to delve into thought-provoking books that align with shared interests.
